Everyone that has moved more than one time with lower quality furniture, often made from chipboard,
knows that the lifetime of this kind of furniture is very limited.
This kind of low-quality furniture is one of the reasons why furniture consumption increases by 150% every ten years. More and more retailers offer lower quality mass-produced furniture which are offered at affordable prices, making it easier to throw away when the look doesn’t fit or damage has occurred. The way our grandparents used furniture, with high quality handcrafted wooden furniture that is inherited from generation to generation is very much in decline.
Here at Julian Chichester our ethos is to manufacture exquisitely designed, beautifully crafted, timeless furniture…heirlooms of the future. Pieces of furniture that do not lose their look but make a statement, lend themselves equally to an old London Town House or a New York loft apartment. Pieces that will stand the test of time in both design and build.

Packaging:
We have moved from EPS to EPE Polyethene, although non-biodegradable, it is reusable and recyclable.
This type of packaging can be melted down and re moulded, none of which ends up in landfill. Alongside this we
are now using HONEYCOMB packaging which is extremely strong, super lightweight and 100% recyclable.
Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH)
is a European Union regulation dating from 18 December 2006.
As of January 2020 Julian Chichester are REACH compliant, REACH addresses the production and use of chemical substances, and their potential impacts on both human health and the environment, the most important in 20 years.
It is the strictest law to date regulating chemical substances and will affect industries throughout the world. REACH entered into force on 1 June 2007, with a phased implementation over the next decade. The regulation also established the European Chemicals Agency, which manages the technical, scientific and administrative aspects of REACH.

Like most furniture companies we sometimes have excess return and sample stock that we cannot sell on. Rather than going direct to landfill we donate a number items per quarter via a local reuse
charity close to our warehouse.
